The selection of Denver businessman Neil Mulholland to lead the National Park Foundation proves once again that the nation is looking to Colorado when it comes to environmental and energy issues.

Some other examples from recent months:

  • Gov. Bill Ritter testified this week before a Senate panel on how the “new energy economy” is creating jobs here.
  • Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, a former U.S. senator from Colorado, has appointed many Coloradans to his staff – some say too many, in fact. Among his appointees: Tom Strickland, former U.S. attorney for Colorado; Will Shafroth, former executive director of Great Outdoors Colorado; and Chris Henderson, former chief operating officer in the Denver mayor’s office.
  • President Barack Obama picked Denver as the location for his signing of the historic stimulus bill, in part because of Colorado’s reputation for creating green jobs.

There’s no doubt that Colorado will continue to lead the way, and you can expect the state’s prominence in this area to play a key role in next year’s midterm elections and beyond.
