In an effort to beat a light-rail train, a driver made a last-second decision to turn right onto 26th Street from Welton Street around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. In the epic struggle of Light Rail vs. Car, the automobile rarely comes out on top.

After having his car thoroughly plowed, the young, unidentified male, who apparently wasn’t injured, tried to open one of the crushed doors. Having no luck, he moved to the back seat, where he got out by way of the rear, driver’s side door and fled.

According to Denver resident Julien Brown, who saw the accident, “He just hopped out and started running down the street. It was a hit-and-run, only he got hit and he also ran!”

Light-rail service was suspended while the vehicle was removed.
