@NASA: Twittering astronauts? Really?

Here’s one from the headline double-take file: “Space station astronauts use robot arm, go Twitter

My first thought was, “Gee, can’t these folks catch a break? They’ve got scads of experiments to do, a broken toilet to fix and — oh, yeah — NOT DIE in the vacuum of space, and now they have to Twitter it all??”

I was envisioning some poor astronaut in a space suit and bulky gloves, trying to enter text on a handheld device while out on a spacewalk.

“@NASA Thx for the RT. Really need to pee.”

But, alas, it’s nothing so dramatic. The astronauts were answering Twittered questions from Earth well AFTER they worked with the robotic arm and went about their other daily business — including fixing the broken toilet.

Well, that’s a relief.
