The Colorado Rockies made the move they needed to make last week, when they traded for relief pitcher Rafael Betancourt from the Cleveland Indians. But the Rockies have been trying to make another move for a left-handed relief pitcher or possibly a left-handed bat off the bench before today’s trade deadline.

The team missed two of its primary targets. Orioles closer George Sherrill, who the Rockies were pursuing despite an asking price that was likely beyond they would pay, was traded to the Dodgers on Thursday. Meanwhile, another Orioles left-hander, Mark Hendrickson, has been pulled back by the Orioles after the Sherrill trade.

The Rockies have been looking at Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson for help off the bench as well.
