The Denver City Council’s Monday night agenda includes:

  • A bill allowing Denver to tap federal stimulus money to design and build the Central Park Boulevard interchange off Interstate 70 is up for final consideration.

The ordinance would allow Denver to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation, which is required before the city could tap into $18 million in federal funding for the $53 million project.

The city would match up to $30 million from the Better Denver Bond program. Another $19 million would come from developers for the project, according to Ann Williams, spokeswoman for Denver Public Works.

The interchange is considered critical to the future of the Stapleton redevelopment area since it would provide access from I-70 as well as extend a major north-south thoroughfare within Stapleton.

The environmental assessment on the interchange has been completed, but Denver has yet to get the final go-ahead for the project. If it does, construction is expected to start this year, with the interchange fully operational by 2013.

  • Preservation of mountain views from Coors Field is the subject of a bill being introduced. The plan would establish a view plane affecting the height of future structures to be built in the area.
  • The council will pick a new president and president pro-tem.  The president is selected on the third Monday in July and serves a one-year term. He or she appoints committees and assigns their functions. Jeanne Robb has been council president for the past year.
