Top prospect Chacin to join Rockies

More journal entries from Steve Foster »
Jack Etkin reports at InsideTheRockies.com that Rockies top pitching prospect Jhoulys Chacin is set to join the Rockies bullpen when the team starts a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants. Chacin was pulled from his start in Tulsa on Wednesday after just an inning as a precaution for future roster moves.
Etkin reports that the move was planned before the Rockies learned that reliever Manny Corpas would required surgery to remove bone chops in his elbow and miss at least a month if not the rest of the season.
Chacin has been a starter for Tulsa all season. He’s 8-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 18 starts. Chacin has a major-league ready fastball and changeup while he continues to work on a breaking pitch. He will join a bullpen that has been depleted by injuries to Corpas and Alan Embree and has struggled recently.
