The Colorado Rockies, seeking outfield reinforcements with Dexter Fowler and Carlos Gonzalez injured, have called up Eric Young Jr. and Matt Murton from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Tracy Ringolsby at InsideTheRockies.com reports that Fowler has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after suffering a deep bone bruise when he fouled a pitch off his knee in the 14th inning Monday night.

Reliever Adam Eaton, who got the win in Monday’s 6-4 thriller, has been optioned to the Colorado Springs to make room for Murton.

Murton played for the Rockies earlier this season before being sent down in early June. Young, who has played primarily second base this season for the Sky Sox, recently began playing regularly in center field. He also played center field in the Arizona Fall League last year.

After suffering the injury on a 3-2 count Monday, Fowler stayed in the game. He walked on the next pitch and hobbled around the field thereafter, first having to run to second on a base hit from Chris Iannetta then moving to third and later scoring on back-to-back walks.

Gonzalez was injured having dinner after Saturday’s game when a steak knife left a small puncture wound in his left hand. Expected to sit out at least a couple games, Gonzalez was pressed into Monday’s game when he pinch-ran in the 10th inning for Todd Helton. He stayed in the game defensively and came to bat in 12th inning. Unable to swing the bat effectively because of the cut, Gonzalez tried to bunt his way on. Iannetta pinch-hit for Gonzalez in the 14th.

UPDATE, 8/26: Young singled in the fifth inning Wednesday against the Dodgers for his first major league hit, but was caught stealing later in the inning.
