The University of Colorado at Boulder received Sierra magazine’s highest possible rating for green universities, putting it at the top of the list of “eco-enlightened schools.”

CU ranked No. 2 in last year’s list.

This year, the school received perfect 10s in Sierra’s transportation and waste management categories. It received mostly high marks in every other category, except for energy, where CU earned a 3.

The school says its latest push toward sustainability is a four-year plan, still in the draft stage, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent in the next 40 years.

Rounding out the list of top 10 greenest schools are: the University of Washington at Seattle; Middlebury College; the University of Vermont; College of the Atlantic; Evergreen State College; the University of California at Santa Cruz; the University of California at Berkeley; the University of Colorado at Los Angeles; and Oberlin College.
