Long-awaited wide receiver Andre Simmons finally took to the practice field Wednesday after being enrolling in school, University of Colorado football officials said.

In a statement, CU spokesman Dave Plati called Simmons “good to go.”

The 6-foot-3 wide receiver has been counted on to add both speed and size to CU’s wide receiving corps. His admittance to CU, however, was delayed after he completed course work at Independence Community College in Kansas — first by the late arrival of his junior college transcripts and later for reasons that were never made clear by the school.

Simmons participated in practice Wednesday, but cannot practice in pads for several days. He is expected to see playing time early in the season.
